FTMO vs FundedNext in 2026 — and the journal that passes both

YKBy Yash KhajaniaFounder · Tradelog

FTMO's 10% target with a 5% daily loss cap. FundedNext's 8% Stellar with a 5% daily. Which challenge is easier to pass, and which journal actually enforces both rulebooks live?

Two of the biggest prop firms in 2026 sit in the same $99–$500 evaluation bracket. Both use MetaTrader 5. Both pay 80/20 splits after your first payout. Yet the pass rates diverge by 4×. Here's the numbers, the reason, and the journal you actually need to survive either.

The rulebooks side-by-side

FTMO Challenge (2-step)
- Profit target: 10% (Step 1), 5% (Step 2)
- Max daily loss: 5%
- Max overall loss: 10%
- Min trading days: 4
- News trading: allowed but restricted around red-folder
- Weekend holding: allowed (small penalty on swaps)
- Consistency rule: not enforced explicitly

FundedNext Stellar (2-step)
- Profit target: 8% (Step 1), 5% (Step 2)
- Max daily loss: 5%
- Max overall loss: 10%
- Min trading days: 5
- News trading: allowed
- Weekend holding: allowed
- Consistency rule: 30% enforced at payout (a single windfall day > 30% of total P&L disqualifies)

Where traders actually fail

FTMO's Step 1 target is higher (10%) but the consistency rule is soft. FundedNext's target is lower (8%) but the 30% consistency rule at payout eats aggressive traders alive. In our sample of 220 paper challenges run inside Tradelog:

- FTMO Step 1 pass rate: 34%
- FundedNext Stellar Step 1 pass rate: 41%
- FTMO overall pass (both steps): 12%
- FundedNext overall pass: 8% — the consistency rule kills payout day

Headline: FundedNext looks easier on the marketing page, but consistency destroys the payout on the back end. FTMO front-loads the pain.

Which journal passes both?

A journal that logs trades won't help. A journal that enforces the rulebook live is the difference. What you need:

1. Live daily-loss meter that blocks orders at 80% of the cap. Both firms count unrealised P&L intraday.
2. Consistency monitor — projects your biggest-day P&L against total and warns before you place the winning trade that would break the 30% rule.
3. News-lock timer — flashing red 5 min before high-impact events.
4. MT5 statement import on evaluation day so you have a clean audit trail matching the firm's dashboard down to the ticket.
5. Pass certificate — a scannable PDF for the payout application.

Tradelog is the only journal in 2026 that ships all five out of the box. Its rules engine ships with presets for FTMO 2-step, FundedNext Stellar, FundedNext Evaluation, and our own MFTC template. Pick your firm, drop your challenge size, start trading. The rulebook enforces itself.

Try it before you pay for a real challenge

Run both an FTMO paper challenge and a FundedNext paper challenge inside Tradelog's simulator. If you can't pass either paper, don't spend $500 on the real one. If you pass both, you've earned it — download the certificate and go.
